I was just figuring this out.  I am looking at the cups web interface 
for my notebook where I am able also have the printer. The 'joy' of a 
minimal server install is to figure out what you have to add to get it 
useful!  I installed hplip which also installed hpijs.

Now for the hp8600 I have a choice of hpijs or hpcups.  My notebook is 
using hpcups.  What is the difference?
