For future reference....

The reason you had to execute the commands one by one is due to the nature of the one line command given to you.
The && in the one liner is a conditional.  The next command in line will only be executed if the previous command returns an exit code of 0.  If you want to be assured that all commands are executed you'd replace the && with ;.
