libass essentially handles subtitle rendering on material that has 
subtitles:

	# dnf info libass
	...
	Description : Libass is a portable library for SSA/ASS subtitles rendering.

So subtitles won't be rendered if you disable it. Depending on your
needs, this may not be a big thing.
