I tried to make this go away on my drive by spending ages
writing zeros over the whole drive, and it did indeed
make it go away, but a few days after I reinstalled the
drive and reformatted it, I got not just 1 or 2 pending
sectors, but a bazillion of them, so I chucked the drive.
