Very SLOW system update

An update has been running on my system for the last 3-1/2 hours.  It
hasn't crashed or died, but it's been very slow.  Here are the stats:

    $ date; ps u 9145

Everything else is running fine.  Good connection to my ISP.  Is there
some kind of trouble with the server?  Heavy load?
