A KVM switch always suggests problems with EDID info from
monitors being forgotten.

See the kernel docs at:

https://www.kernel.org/doc/Documentation/EDID/HOWTO.txt

There are utilities to download the EDID from your monitors
and you can then plug them into the firmware directory so no one ever
forgets them or thinks they have changed.

Not sure this is the problem, but it is a thought.
