xdg-open not working for directories

Hi,

I am on F14. exo-open or xdg-open keeps opening directories or unknown
mime types with evince. Earlier the application associated with
application/x-directory was empty; setting it with "xdg-mime default
..." doesn't help in anyway.

$ xdg-mime query default application/x-directory
Thunar.desktop

Can anyone suggest what is wrong?
