I use the following in updates.repo, updates.testing.repo:
exclude=exo garcon gtk-xfce-engine im-chooser* *xfce* orage parole 
pragha ristretto Terminal *hunar* tumbler xfbib xfburn xfconf xfdesktop 
xfmpc xfwm4
