Wow. Regardless of what if anything happens with the XFCE spin, million 
thanks Miro for this tip on Atril! I'd missed this gem entirely and 
wasted much energy at cursing at current Evince (it used to be such a 
nice app...)

UI sanity?

Atril wont save space, on the contrary it drags in mate-desktop-libs to 
the picture, however it fits the overall look and feel MUCH better than 
any of those "modern" gtk3 abominations.
