By the way, your browser sends some information about your system and
even language you're using on it in a special header. My favourite
Fedora' browser - lynx - doesn't send it. Because of that I can't browse
some pages. Error message on them says: `Sorry. Probably you're robot!`.

I can't get a Broadcom 4306 wireless card working.
lsmod shows a b43legacy driver loading.
The firmware installed, b43-fwcutter-011-3.fc9.i386
This website shows different drivers , but I'm confused about which
firmware is correct.

fedora 8 network booting howto
by Antonio Barragan
Dear all
I am planning to build a cluster based in Linux. This cluster will
have a master node and some slave
nodes. I would like to boot the cluster from the master node and, if
possible to power/up/down the slaves from the master.
Since I´m considering Fedora 8 as the linux version to use, I woud
like to find updated information on how to do this (yes, you´ve
guessed it, I´m not an expert linux administrator).
any help will be greatly appreciated

NM: the usual rant
by Timothy Murphy
I'm having problems with NM again.
I often have to re-boot once or twice before it connects.
But that is not the subject of this rant.
To try to make sense of what is happening
I have been looking through NM entries in /var/log/messages
and I find these less than helpful.
Was ever so much written to so little purpose?
I see for example:
Feb 23 14:49:41 mary NetworkManager: <WARN> check_one_route():
(eth1) error -34 returned from rtnl_route_del(): Sucess#012
Feb 23 14:49:41 mary avahi-daemon[2272]:
Withdrawing address record for 192.168.2.19 on eth1.
Feb 23 14:49:41 mary avahi-daemon[2272]:
Leaving mDNS multicast group on interface eth1.IPv4 with address
192.168.2.19.
Feb 23 14:49:41 mary avahi-daemon[2272]:
Interface eth1.IPv4 no longer relevant for mDNS.
Feb 23 14:49:47 mary NetworkManager:
<info> (eth1): now unmanaged
What does this mean?
What is error -34?
How can one find out?
Or:
Feb 24 20:47:58 mary NetworkManager: <info> (
eth1): supplicant interface state: starting -> ready
Feb 24 20:50:29 mary kernel: eth1:
Error -19 disabling MAC port
Feb 24 20:50:30 mary NetworkManager: <info>
(eth1): now unmanaged
What is error -19?
Surely Linux error messages should be intelligible
by the common user?
Or are they intended solely for gurus?
And what are all these states NM keeps going into
and coming out of?
Feb 24 20:50:38 mary NetworkManager: <info>
(eth1): preparing device.
Feb 24 20:50:38 mary NetworkManager: <info>
(eth1): deactivating device (reason: 2).
Feb 24 20:50:38 mary NetworkManager: <info>
(eth1): device state change: 2 -> 3
What is "reason: 2"?
Where are the states documented?
NM = nightmare ...

Problem with keyboard layout in kvm virtual machine
by Klaus-Peter Schrage
This weekend I have successfully installed kvm and qemu, and Win XP is
running in a virtual machine. A problem remains: Win XP installs with
German locale (the default, as I used a German installation cd), but a
strange keyboard layout results - some kind of qwertyu, it is not the US
one which I know.
In KDE (system settings - regional and language) I have set the "DE"
keyboard layout as well. Whenever I switch to "US" there, I immediatedly
get the correct layout in the Windows guest, and switching to "DE" again
in KDE brings back the strange layout in Win XP.
Any pointers to what may be configured wrong are welcome.

Using gmx.com with evolution
by Paul F. Johnson
Hi,
I've signed up to www.gmx.com's service which provides me with an smtp server
(my current service is playing up).
The only problem is setting Evolution to play happy with it. I've followed the
instructions for thunderbird from their forums for smtp, but nothing is
happening except that I get an error complaining that the email address is not
from a logged in user.
Does anyone know how to set ev to work with gmx?

lilo on serial consoles
by Deboo ^
I'm trying to prepare to give some Linux tests and got a question that
I am confused with, even after digging in to the serial howto and
googling. Can somone give it a try?
2 to 4 seem important to me. 1 is the only option that seems not as
important but then the alias is needed for ttyS0, right? So what could
be the odd one out?
Which one of the following is NOT necessary if you want to be able to
use a serial connection to select a boot image from lilo, to view
kernel and init output, and log in as root?
1. /etc/modules.conf: alias /dev/ttyS0 serial
2. /etc/lilo.conf: serial=0,115200n8
3. /etc/lilo.conf: append="console=ttyS0,115200n8"
4. /etc/securetty: ttyS0
5. /etc/inittab: TO:23:respawn:/sbin/getty -L ttyS0 115200 vt100

Install DVD
by David Miller
I have started using Redhat about Redhat 4 and started using Fedora
after RedHat 9.
I am a little more than a casual user. I develop embedded software and
use linux for my development platform but I don't develop linux code.
I currently have a fiber internet connection and downloads are normally
quick.
I went to http://fedoraproject.org/en/get-fedora-all and downloaded the
direct download for Fedora 10 and burned a DVD with K3B but the DVD
would not mount in my system.
I went back and downloaded the Bit Torrent and verified the sha1sum and
then burned another DVD with K3B and asked K3B to verify the write. All
went well until I tried to mount the DVD.
I get a popup with the following: Error
org.freedesktop.Hal.PermissionDenied. Details Permission denied: Not in
active session.
I haven't seen this described any where else. Can anyone give me a hand.
