The two aren't mutually exclusive, fixing the problem and all corner
cases thoroughly may take a while, so being able to rapidly share a
solution which works is helpful. Otherwise we're talking about people
waiting for fdisk to be fixed and a new release rolled out (otherwise
applying a patch and building it yourself is not too much different
from following a recipe for operation).
