YUM (refresh-packagekit ?) possible problem ("SOLVED" )

Having no clue I ran "yum clean all" and then "yum update" several 
times, getting
various error messages.

Finally, upon the fifth attempt, YUM told me there were (only) 123 
packges to upgrade !
