Hi All,
Has anyone else noticed the list is a lot quieter then it used to be? There's much less engagement from the devs and users are replying more often to themselves. That's what I've noticed anyway. Maybe I'm wrong, but it sure looks that way to me.
Is using freeipa or IdM in one of the RHEL derivatives still a good option? I'm asking myself that question often now.
Note: my freeipa mail list archive goes back to 2015-12-06 (the day I joined) so it's easy to see the progression/changes in mail list behaviour.

Users helping other users more is a *good* thing as it indicates that there is a strong community. They bring a different perspective than developers and I often learn things myself.
I'm not sure what you mean by lack of engagement from the developers.
It's currently summer in the northern hemisphere and things tend to slow down quite a bit. Developers get time off too.

It is summer and traditional vacation time in the Northen hemisphere. This should sum things up nicely.
There has been a lot of work put into improving RHEL IdM documentation. RHEL IdM guides got restructured and a lot of areas got expanded to cover more of troubleshooting. I'd suggest to look at those too when you'd search for something.
On this mailing list many questions get repeated over years. A search through archives and documentation helps to find answers as well.
However, I'd like to point out that freeipa-users@ mailing list is a community effort. We used to have more of developers active on the list because they were the majority holding the knowledge. Now there are many more experienced users, sharing their practical advices from day to day uses. The balance did tilt, for good. That is something I personally would love to see more, as well as announcements of wild projects we saw in past. I liked that 'FreeIPA replica in a smartlock on the door' thing few years ago.
[Saw Rob's response to the same tune, it is funny that we had to point to the holidays' season, not coordinated. ;)]
