Is there any particular reason we build with -DNDEBUG because no one
else apparently does?
It certainly invalidates quite a bit of testing in rawhide.
We should revisit this question. For now I've fixed up -DNDEBUG failures
and have it working. All production Fedora releases have been this way
e.g. no asserts.
I think either we always build with -DNDEBUG or never. We need to make
a choice.
