It's not the mic, since I just tested it with my laptop and it seems to
work fine. So it's something with the weirdo connector on the back of
the DVR. :(
I tried every combinatoric possible of single or double wire into the
unit, and of course it was the last one that ended up working. :) The
sound is much better now, no distortion or humming, although I may give
it a little bit of a boost using gstreamer as well. Now that I have a
file with working audio, I'll get the gstreamer pipeline to include that
in the final videos tonight and will hopefully be ready for some test
runs tomorrow!
