Thanks to all who were able to attend today's FWN meeting. Transcript is available at:

Summary:
Participants:
Adam Batkin Nicu Buculei Pascal Calarco Oisin Feeley
1. Dormant beats
* we would like to find active writers for the Ambassadors, Marketing, and Security Week beats, at a minimum * Pascal will follow up with current Ambassador and Marketing writers, and send a note out to the lists if they are not able to continue; Oisin will ask David Nalley for suggestions for the Security Week beat, since David is doing the Fedora updates beat each week
2. Formatting issues
* we thought it would be useful to investigate what MediaWiki conventions were available, and create some wiki scratch space to try these out, ie. <pkg> and other tagging * Oisin and Pascal will reach out to the Docs folks to see if these are documented, and work with them to possibly add these to the wiki StyleGuide for others to use as well * Pascal will update the FWN StyleGuide to indicate that person references should ideally reference the appropriate User: wiki page, if it exists. If it does not, we will use CamelCase references as a fallback * Oisin and Pascal will submit a request for Design work from the Art Team to help with a new wiki banner; also will consult with IanWeller and Mo for other FWN wiki styling updates * Oisin will update the FWN StyleGuide to direct writers to start using the ref: cite module convention for links, which is much cleaner; Editors will need to convert all numbered references to ref: beginning with the next issue
3. Fedora Magazine
* Oisin and Pascal will contact Jonathon Roberts to discuss Fedora Magazine * specifically: 1) investigate how to export from MediaWiki to e.g. wordpress or whatever is the CMS du jour supported by infrastrucure; 2) contact JonRob to ask what his plans are * Adam Batkin indicated he can help out occasionally * Pascal can devote some time to this also * Nicu is happy to have his weekly webcomic syndicated in Fedora Magazine * Nicu also suggested that the Art team was thinking about wallpaper photos of the week, which could be incorporated into Fedora Magazine
* the meeting adjourned at 13:59 UTC.

I've been including upcoming events in the Announcements beat, FWIW.

Noted.

Is there a new policy for referencing URLs?

Ian Weller tells me FAS users can be queried on IRC by messaging zodbot:
(02:56:24 PM) ianweller: .fas karsten wade (02:56:25 PM) zodbot: ianweller: quaid 'Karsten Wade' ..<snip>.. (02:56:29 PM) ianweller: .wikilink quaid (02:56:31 PM) zodbot: ianweller: [[User:quaid|Karsten Wade]]
This does seem to be handy, if not outisde typical workflow. It doesn't seem complete though:
(03:08:31 PM) dbewley1: .fas dale bewley (03:08:33 PM) zodbot: dbewley1: 'dale bewley' Not Found!
I checked and I have the 'privacy' box ticked in FAS, so I guess that's why I'm missing.
I see that to appease the wiki czar, we've so far decided to link to [[User:FAS_LOGIN|Full Name]] and fall back to camel case after a manual query fails.
To be honest, I'm not very inclined to search for FAS usernames given a full name just to link them from the article. I think it would be a little too onerous. If camel case names are deemed evil, should we discuss how valuable it is to have name links at all? Generally I'm all for the more links the better, but I'd prefer to keep things as easy as possible on us writers.
Maybe we can discuss beat writer personal workflows. Describe our own habits, and pick up some tips from others. Probably best to start a new thread for that.

I'm in agreement here I think. Unless there's an easy way to find people's names or guess them then it becomes time-consuming to find them in the wiki. I was using the wiki advanced search with the User box ticked and gave up after doing a couple because it took so long. By comparison it's pretty easy to guess people's CamelCase name in general.
The only way I can think of around this is to obtain a dump of the FAS usernames correlated to the surname/familyname of the user. We could probably then use this to build dictionaries for whatever texteditors we use (see next point).
Maybe we can discuss beat writer personal workflows. Describe our own habits, and pick up some tips from others. Probably best to start a new thread for that.
The workflows do indeed make a big difference to what we expect or can achieve from the above changes. I'll look for the other thread or go start it now. Mine's a bit wonky but it had distinct advantages until the above changes!
Best wishes,

Dale, you might want to visit FAS and fill in that info:

Actually, that info is and has been in there. Full name field is complete. I also unchecked the privacy box yesterday, but it still didn't fix the zodbot .fas search.
Another possibility would be to have CamelCase redirects for each FAS user who gets wiki access. Cost/benefit...? Not sure.

Virtually every FAS user gets wiki access - (actually you have to complete the CLA, but it's virtually the same thing) There are something like 12000 user accounts now.

Is zodbot supposed to be on #fedora or on some other channel? Could you supply more information about using it? I seem to get a message from "zeebot" telling me I am not recognized when I try to use it.
Best,

I am not on #fedora (too much traffic) but I found (and used) him on #fedora-meeting
