interfacing laser to old Lumonics with RS232

Hi

I am rebuilding a yag laser for laser marking and need to drive the analogue
galvo heads , the controller is an old DE 2000 Lumonics with a  68000
processor and communicates via RS232

Attached is the manual , or

Could you please advise if APS will communicate with the unit via rs232 or
an I wasting my time with a dinosaur product.

I can drive the galvo's via an +/- analogue input so if its not suitable
what do you suggest for a driver card or DAC with  Beamconstruct

Peter,

in case your dinosaur is still alife and happy, why let him die?

The bad news are: it is not supported out of the box, you would have
to write your own scanner controller plug-in in order to control it.
There will be a skeleton available as part of the SDK soon (or there
already is something online at
https://fedorahosted.org/OpenAPC/browser/plugins/libio_sc_skeleton )
which can be used as starting point.

In case you want to replace it by some other hardware: please contact
us via the contact form, may be we have a solution for you.

Hi Jim 
Appreciate your quick response , Unless it is real basic I am useless in
writing programs , I will have  a look at the skeleton to see if any thing I
can adapt 
What other hardware is available as an alternative to drive a couple of
analogue lumonics Galvos
