[Bug 249901] New: perl-XML-DOM obsoltes conflicts with packages requiring perl-libxml-enno
by Red Hat Bugzilla
Please do not reply directly to this email. All additional
comments should be made in the comments box of this bug report.
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=249901
Summary: perl-XML-DOM obsoltes conflicts with packages requiring
perl-libxml-enno
Product: Fedora EPEL
Version: el4
Platform: All
OS/Version: Linux
Status: NEW
Severity: medium
Priority: low
Component: perl-XML-DOM
AssignedTo: orion(a)cora.nwra.com
ReportedBy: botsch(a)cnf.cornell.edu
QAContact: extras-qa(a)fedoraproject.org
CC: fedora-perl-devel-list(a)redhat.com
Description of problem:
the perl-XML-DOM package spec file specifies that this package obsolotes
perl-libxml-enno ... however, the package perl-libxml-enno is required by
foomatic. So, yum updates fail when this conflict arises.
Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
How reproducible:
so far, 100% of time on many machines
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Set up yum to point to the rhel4 epel repository
2. Install foomatic and perl-libxml-enno
3. Attempt a 'yum update' with or without the --obsoletes flag
Actual results:
failed dependencies in that perl-libxml-enno is required by foomatic.
Expected results:
yum updates packages appropriately/

Summary: perl-5.8.8-17.fc7 omits libperl.so
Product: Fedora Core
Version: test4
Platform: All
OS/Version: Linux
Status: NEW
Severity: medium
Priority: medium
Component: perl
AssignedTo: rnorwood(a)redhat.com
ReportedBy: M.A.Young(a)durham.ac.uk
QAContact: dkl(a)redhat.com
CC: fedora-perl-devel-list(a)redhat.com
I have just upgraded to perl-5.8.8-17.fc7 and now whenever I try to run perl I
get the error
perl: error while loading shared libraries: libperl.so: cannot open shared
object file: No such file or directory
It seems this build of perl is missing some crucial files.

perl-Net-DNS-Nameserver subpackage?
by Robin Norwood
Hi,
I got an email from one of the maintainers of Net::DNS (Dick Franks)
about one of my recent changelog entries. I had (incorrectly) removed
perl(Net::IP) from the BuildRequires because I read in the upstream
changelog that it was no longer required. I had to revert that change
because it *was* still required by Net::DNS::Nameserver. Dick suggested
that I could split Net::DNS::Nameserver out into a subpackage.
Net::DNS::Nameserver is what you expect it is - a simple DNS server.
I don't know if it's worth it, or if it's wise this late in the release
cycle for F8. What do y'all think?
Here's the patch:
perl(Net::IP) is still a BuildRequire, but not a requirement for the
base package any longer. It makes sense to split out 'Server' bits, but
OTOH, it's just one .pm file and a small dep.
