May I ask you what are your plans for targetcli in 2014? Maybe some
new
features? I was thinking about a "top" command to show some target
metrics in real time (for instance, read and write throughput per
backstore).
As you may know, in RHEL 6 to 7 we're switching from tgtd to
LIO/targetcli. LIO is still missing iSNS, >256 LUN support, and
userspace-backed backstores, so that's going to drive my efforts until
everything's covered.
The bulk of the work will likely be outside of targetcli, either in the
kernel or in your target-isns project. I feel like the targetcli/rtslib
code base is in pretty good shape right now. The only code issues on my
list are:
* targetcli error return values (would be nice to fix)
* Add fcntl-based locking around changing configfs, so no chance of
multiple clients trashing configfs state (one person reported this,
would like to hear more if this is an issue, b/c it will be a fair
amount of work)
So outside of those I don't have any hot issues for targetcli and rtslib
in 2014, but bug reports and feature requests are always welcome,
especially with patches :-)
For the "top" command, were you thinking it'd be part of targetcli, or a
separate thing?
