GNOME translation into Akan
by Ben Konrath
Hi Jojoo,
Here are the instructions for starting a new translation team in GNOME:
http://live.gnome.org/TranslationProject/StartingATeam
It seems to be a good idea to have a mailing for the effort. Do you
think we can use the Fedora trans-ak list for GNOME as well? If this
is ok with everybody we should change the list description to reflect
this.
One of the first things we need to get Akan supported on Linux is
glibc support as described here:
http://live.gnome.org/TranslationProject/NewLanguage
I think we'll want to create a ak_GH locale file. I would be
interested in helping with this because I don't know much about this
and I'd like to learn more. Can you help me create this? I'll figure
out what needs to be in the file and then ask you and Henry a bunch of
questions if that's ok.
We will also need to add Akan to the iso-codes package here:
http://pkg-isocodes.alioth.debian.org/
It seems the there is already an entry for Akan in fontconfig:
http://cgit.freedesktop.org/fontconfig/tree/fc-lang
This entry should be checked because it only refers to Twi and Fanti,
not Brong, Baule, Nzema or Anyl [1].
Let's try to sort this stuff out first and then we can start working
through the GNOME specific stuff. How does that sound?
Ben
