Migrating a WinXP guest to F16

Hi,

I have been trying to migrate a WinXP to a new F16 install,
from an old F12 machine but I have the problem that
networking doesn't work.

The guest sees the network card and I can ping it from the
guest itself but it has no access to the external network
through the bridge.

Other virtual machines, both Fedora and Win7,  created in
the F16 box do work.

I tried deleting the network card in the guest and creating
a new one but the same thing happens.

Any ideas?

I had similar issues and ultimately gave up.  Luckily in my case Office 2007 
with macros is working now in wine so I don't need the VM.  You might try 
changing the machine type to pc-0.12 in the libvirt qemu xml file.  That 
seemed to help a little.

Is the network device an emulated piece of hardware or
a redhat virtio network device? I'm pretty sure the
virtio stuff has changed a lot since "old times", so
updating the driver inside the XP machine with latest
versions might help.

In theory we it keeps backward compatibility.
Your suggestion is good to isolate the issue, Andres, please try e1000 
nic instead of virtio and we'll see whether the issue is the 
configuration or the driver (were updating for the most recent one will 
be good too)
