The only options in the guest are 640x480 and 800x600. I don't know where the list is stored where I could add another set of values. Brendan Ján ONDREJ (SAL) wrote:
Then I don't know. Have you tryed to change resolution in guest? Which choices are available?

virsh edit MACHINE_NAME showed my video system to be the same as yours. i.e. <model type='cirrus' vram='9216' heads='1'/>
Is there any way that I can refine this or adjust other settings to improve the resolution?

I have this in virt-manager, but I am using Fedora 13 preview repository for Fedora 12. If you don't have this, use virsh edit:
virsh edit MACHINE_NAME
Try to search for video section and try to replace it with something like:
<video> <model type='cirrus' vram='9216' heads='1'/>
</video>

Hi Sal, Thanks for the response. The laptop is a Dell Latitude E5500 with an Intel GMA 4500MHD chip set. I just created the Centos client using the GUI interface and wasn't asked about the graphics chip. How can I refine my settings? Thanks, Brendan

Hello,
which video card model you selected in guest? With cirrus it's working well for me at 1024x768 and may be for more too.

I have installed F12 on a laptop and created a Centos client. The host, F12, system uses a screen resolution of 1280x800. Is there any way to increase the resolution for the client beyond 800x600? Thanks, Brendan

I do this with the following /etc/X11/xorg.conf file. You'll want to adjust the resolutions in the "Modes" line for your screen.
Section "ServerLayout" Identifier "Default Layout" Screen 0 "Screen0" 0 0 InputDevice "Keyboard0" "CoreKeyboard" EndSection
Section "InputDevice" Identifier "Keyboard0" Driver "kbd" Option "XkbModel" "pc105" Option "XkbLayout" "us" EndSection
Section "Device" Identifier "Videocard0" Driver "cirrus" EndSection
Section "Monitor" Identifier "Monitor0" HorizSync 31.5-62.5 VertRefresh 50-70 EndSection
Section "Screen" Identifier "Screen0" Device "Videocard0" Monitor "Monitor0" DefaultDepth 24 SubSection "Display" Viewport 0 0 Depth 24 Modes "1280x800" "1024x768" EndSubSection EndSection
Regards,
Thanks for response. I edited the /etc/X11/xorg.conf in the client and added a modes line containing 1280x800, 1024x768 and 800x600 but the gui display change still only offers 800x600 and 600x480. Rebooting made no difference. Brendan

Hmm. Works like a charm for me with Centos 5.3 and 5.4 guests. Maybe a clue can be found in /var/log/Xorg.0.log on the guest. What reason does it give for discarding, say, 1024x768?
Jerry, The /var/log/Xorg.0.log shows that the Xorg program attempts to use a whole range of resolutions and rejects most of them as either "Bad mode clock/interface/doublescan" or "hsync out of range" the latter applied, for example, to "1024x768". Our target systems are Centos 5.3 but I chose F12 as the base because I hoped that it would give me the best features, particularly a higher screen resolution for the guests. Thanks to all those who responded with suggestions. The solution was..... I edited /etc/X11/xorg.conf on the client and:
Added>>>>>>>>> this section Section "Monitor" Identifier "Monitor0" HorizSync 31.5-62.5 VertRefresh 50-70 EndSection
In the "Screen" secion: Added Monitor "Monitor0"
In the display subsection: Added/revised Modes "1280x800" "1024x768" "800x600"
After a reboot of the client, the screen resolution was 1280x800, which is fine and the GUI pull-down list of resolutions included a range of options.
