annoying knetmanager behaviour

When I come home and open my laptop, I will be first prompted for a screen lock 
pw, then knetmanage will ask for pw to allow connection to wifi.

If I answer right away, it's fine.  But if I only enter the pw a while later, 
the pw is accepted, but no connection is attempted.  The icon shows a red X.  I 
have to click on the icon, and manually click on my wifi, which will then 
connect successfully.
