Yeah, cool on the cursing. But I have noticed these inconsistencies too.
I think I ended up rm -rf'ing my .kde* .config* dirs after testing
everything with a new account, and seeing how everything worked with
that new account. I am going to try and replicate and investigate
further though to see specifically what went wrong, and will post back
here. (If I find anything :-\ )
