you are sure that libpng* is the problem ?

$ rpm -qil gdm | less
$ rpm -qf /usr/share/gdm /usr/share/icons ...
$ rpm -Vf /usr/share/gdm /usr/share/icons ...


# rpm -Uvh --replacefiles --replacepkgs <whatismessedup>
