lirc and ati remote

I follow this tuto

my remote working.
I installed the lirc rpm compiled with the atiusb driver. I run lircd
without any error but when i want to run irw, lircd is killed with an
error message saying : could not get file information for /dev/lirc. If i
run : ls -la /dev/lir* i could only see /dev/lircd and /dev/lircm but not
/dev/lirc.
I thought this device was created during lirc installation ?
i have to create it ?
How ?
