Roger,

I changed the shares directory from /home/?username? to /temp off the
root. For some reason it would not allow me to go into the /home area. I
CAN NOW see a file that I put into /temp. However, I can not change the
name of that file or copy new ones to the /temp directory from my XP
machine. It says "Cannot rename filename: access denied". Do I have to
have permissions for the /temp directory on the FC5 machine set to
something else?

The entry in /var/log/messages last entry is:

Also in the logs every time a /home area is tried I see permission
denied that is why I made a /temp directory off the root. I just cannot
add or change a file name with my XP machine. 

I did execute "As root execute
'setenforce permissive' - does this help?" and I can now change file
names and add items to the /temp directory. I still can not add or
change files to anything in the /home directory. Almost there!! What did
setenforce permissive do?

do you have any entries in /var/log/messages that say that selinux
disallows mounting samba-shares?

look for {avc denied} messages which have samba in their lines. You can
try it is selinux, if you set selinux permissive. As root execute
'setenforce permissive' - does this help?
