Samba?

I want to share a directory on my FC6 desktop computer just like I do 
when I run Winblows.  I want anybody on my network to be able to read 
or write the files without a user name or password.  I've set up the 
samba server and it appears to work correctly.  But to make it work I 
have to set the shared directory to 777.  I expected to have to set 
it to 666.  Can anybody explain what is happening?
