Not able to install nvidia drivers

Try this: blacklist the nouveau drivers and let it fail.  Then reboot 
into recovery mode.  When you get the prompt, enter this:

telinit 3

This will (or should) get you to a CLI login prompt.  Log in as yourself 
and take a look at Xorg.0.log and see if there's anything there that 
might help.
