Zoltan,
That attached file, /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf, containing
options snd-hda-intel position_fix=1
did not solve my problem.
Neither the internal microphone nor the microphone jack work.
The pulse audio volume control shows only one input device,
and has zero activity on its volume meter.
I have a Sony vaio VPCF13
Any other ideas?  Thanks,
