not sooo long ago nouveau worked perfectly
however, do not buy nVidia at all
Corei7 SandyBridge needs no BLOB at all

and why do you not recommend the akmod-nvidia to get
updated drivers after kernel updates and mostly if
no bianry yet vuilt automatic rebuilt kernel modules?
