This doesn't make sense.  If you do a directory listing in /etc do you 
see freshclam.conf?  (To do a listing, type ls -la  make sure you have 
the space before the dash.)  Copy the entire line
that freshclam.conf appears on (highlght the line and press 
ctrl-shift-c) and paste it in here.
