I have the same adapter and it's working for me.
[sdstern at sds-desk-2 ~]$ lsusb |grep -i bluetooth
Bus 001 Device 003: ID 0a5c:21e8 Broadcom Corp. BCM20702A0 Bluetooth 4.0
I use it to play music through a Jambox.
It shows up as a bluetooth headset when I pair it.
