One of my systems stalls at start-up

I've not seen a situation where a network card has prevented the system from starting.  I just tried to reproduce it in a VM and could not.

Try starting your system in single user mode.  Remove the "rhgb" and "quiet" as before and then add "1" to the end of the line.  You should get to the point where you're asked for the root password.  (you may have to hit return once to get the prompt....)

Then do.....

ip addr show       to verify the link is there but DOWN

then ....

systemctl start network.service

and see if the link comes up.
