Hello to all,
I've updated the content of https://fedorahosted.org/cobbler/wiki/AlternateDebianDeployment and created proper patches for current devel version. The github is at http://github.com/javiplx/debian-devel/commits/debian-devel, and I've tried to split as much as possible to make easier to examine.
The first three patches are fixes for bugs I've found, probably not so clear for redhat distros, but required to allow debian imports. The target of the other patches is basically to add --os-version support to cobbler-import and cobbler-repo. The option is required for import, but for repos it could be considered a "feature". It is very useful for debian because makes straightforward to create a repo for a different version or architecture just by copying an existing.
I cannot perform a real deployment test right now, but I will inform as soon as I do.

Thanks for the contributions.
Quick question before I merge this...
By "cannot performa real deployment test", do you mean that they are all import related and shouldn't really have any change to the deployments? (In which case, no additional testing should be needed), or that these need further testing that haven't been done yet?

Maybe it was a little confusing. As far as I've tested, the import works fine (although it might broke other distros). What I cannot assure is that with the import results is really possible to deploy a system. Let say, it might be a problem with the hostname or suite in sample.seed, for example. I will try that on weekend when I can arrange a second laptop.
Hopefully, this second explanation is easier to understand, although right now I'm not in my best shape...

Hello Michael,
did you get chance to see the patches? Yesterday I realized that something happened with github, and the only repository (so patches) there is an old one. If you did'nt get the patches, tell me and I will recreate the github again.

Something happened with your github?
My main copy is not github, it's fedorahosted (though I do try to keep them synced up always)
Anyway, yes, I did do a force push at one time due to a bad merge and -- while I thought everything was preserved -- you may be right.
In which case, yes, applying them again would be much appreciated. I wouldn't want to miss anything.
Thanks!

Well, actually the new debian-devel repository just disappeared. But I've looked it again right now, and it is back exactly as I remember it. So, we can forget my previous mail. Maybe was some temporary problem in github.

Hello,
I need to upload a small patch to github and modify a bit the wiki page, but now I can confirm that the updated import procedure allows to install a fresh system. I've been able to install debian lenny in a nearly unnatended way, disturbed only by questions about extra drivers disk (it was a laptop with unsupported wifi), and disk formatting (which I forced because it holds multiple runnable systems and I didn't want to brick it).
There are a few rough points which are not cobbler faults but maybe debian installer ones or specific from my own setup, but the actual deployment was right.
I'm on the way to test deployment of virtual machines with koan, but as far as concerns real machines I'm happy, and also exhausted my test infrastructure.
