Bug ID: 2242063 Summary: xdg-mime set to nemo-autorun-softwaredesktop. Desktop programs don't open a browser (Evolution, Thunderbird, evince, atril, ...) Product: Fedora Version: 38 Hardware: x86_64 OS: Linux Status: NEW Component: cinnamon Severity: medium Assignee: leigh123linux@googlemail.com Reporter: fedora@werner.gold QA Contact: extras-qa@fedoraproject.org CC: epel-packagers-sig@lists.fedoraproject.org, leigh123linux@googlemail.com, miketwebster@gmail.com, riehecky@fnal.gov Target Milestone: --- Classification: Fedora
On a vanilla F38 installation with Cinnamon, none of the desktop programs is able to open a browser tab. $ xdg-mime query default x-scheme-handler/https nemo-autorun-software.desktop
The expected behavior would be opening a browser, which does not work. Regardless of the setting in system preferences. Changing the mime setting for http(s) to a desktop file of a paticular browser seems to be a valid workaround with the disadvantage of having set the browser type directly. xdg-mime default google-chrome.desktop x-scheme-handler/http xdg-mime default google-chrome.desktop x-scheme-handler/https
Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce: 1. Install F38 with Cinnamon as the Desktop. 2. Start any application that has links in a document 3. Click the link Actual Results: Nothing
Expected Results: Open a browser window/tab
