I can only repeat my position on this:

We need a single input method framework and we need to tighly integrate it with
keyboard layout configuration and the rest of the desktop. Tagging input method
support onto desktops 'from the side' and trying to make it both
'desktop-neutral' and 'im-framework-neutral' is always going to provide an
insufficient user experience.
