Summary: Need simple quick summary of vital data, like kernel version Product: Fedora Documentation Version: devel Platform: All URL: http://http://docs.fedoraproject.org/release-notes/f12 /en-US/html-single/ OS/Version: Linux Status: NEW Severity: low Priority: low Component: release-notes AssignedTo: relnotes@fedoraproject.org ReportedBy: tshinnic@io.com QAContact: kwade@redhat.com CC: eric@christensenplace.us, wb8rcr@arrl.net Classification: Fedora
Description of problem:
Need simple quick summary of vital data, like kernel version, gnome/kde versions, etc.
Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable): current release notes.
Actual results:
Have to search down to "8.7.3. System Environment-Kernel" to get a hint what to tell VMWare is the guest Linux type.
Expected results:
Y'all are still proud of having recent levels, right? And I know y'all used to mention these early, if not prominently... Right now, first semi-mention of that kernel thingy is under "4.1.2. Better webcam support" ??
Additional info:
Not everyone is conversant with the current state of things - hand 'em a clue?

--- Comment #1 from A. Mani a.mani.cms@gmail.com 2009-11-22 11:35:10 EDT --- I think we should have a section like 'Changes in Fedora 12: Summary' including info on Kernel, desktops and other package versions.
The question is also about how much of 'How-To' info to include in the release notes. Ideally the user should be referred to the user-guide. A prominent notice should be in place. We have a reference to the install guide, but none for the user guide.
Obviously this can only be rectified in a future release.
