Hello All
I have had a go at getting Fedora11 for s390 going under Hercules and
haven't had a lot of success.
First attempt was with Hercules under Windows - I was able to get the
system IPL'ed to the stage where I could logon to 'root' and issue a
couple of basic commands - my problem with the Windows/Hercules
combination is in the networking - I find it difficult to get it stable.
I did have it stable on Herc 3.05 but when I upgraded to 3.06 I wasn't
able to get the networking going - that exercise is now shelved for a
rainy day.
My next attempt was to try to get F11 working on a Linux guest running
on VMware (under Windows). I have an Ubuntu8.10 guest so I thought I
would see if the F11 image would work - after all was set up (Herc 3.05
was the version I have installed) I IPL'ed - it all started to look good
until the boot failed. Drats - it was getting late so I decided to put
that attmpt behind me and take a break.
My next attempt was to try Hercules on Linux (again Ubuntu 8.10 and Herc
3.05) on a standalone x86 box. (By standalone I mean without VMware)
All went well until I again got the Boot Failed message - so below I am
posting my console logs in the hope that someone may be able to help me
proceed.
Thanks in advance for any help - Bern....

Thats your problem here. For some reason your kernel can't properly
initialize the dasd device. Do you get the same error message when you
try in with F11?
