According to what WD writes about their "smartware" here:
http://wdc.com/en/products/products.aspx?id=440

all you have to do is to install Windows and smartware to "unlock" the
data. I'm quite shure smartware uses an own, proprietary fileformat,
so there is little chance that you'll get access to the file contents
without having smartware installed.
