You lost me there. Are you saying that people are usually careless
about using character set names, or are you saying the term "ASCII" is
ambiguous?
I'm saying ASCII has been abused so often by people with no deep
encoding knowledge it's effectively meaningless today. And anyway
Unicode is what people should focus on now.
