Summary: ibus: ensure the option to activate/deactivate IBus is
available and intelligible in the Preferences
Product: Fedora
Version: 16
Platform: Unspecified
OS/Version: Unspecified
Status: NEW
Severity: medium
Priority: medium
Component: ibus
AssignedTo: tfujiwar(a)redhat.com
ReportedBy: harshula(a)redhat.com
QAContact: extras-qa(a)fedoraproject.org
CC: petersen(a)redhat.com, tfujiwar(a)redhat.com,
i18n-bugs(a)lists.fedoraproject.org,
shawn.p.huang(a)gmail.com
Classification: Fedora
Story Points: ---
Type: ---
There are two broad issues:
1) The ability for IBus to be activated/deactivated (start/stop IBus
intercepting all keystrokes) via a keyboard shortcut must remain. Otherwise,
for those not wanting IBus to intercept every keystroke, the only option is to
quit IBus and restart it when it is needed. Is there really a significant
maintenance overhead in keeping the activate/deactivate option available?
2) The current Preferences UI is confusing.
a) 'Preferences -> General -> Keyboard Shortcuts' contains:
* "Toggle"
* "Enable"
* "Disable"
* "Next input method"
* "Previous input method"
The semantics of "Toggle" has changed between F14 and F16, from
'activate/deactivate IBus' to something closer to 'Previous input method'.
Furthermore, 'activate/deactivate' is more accurate/clearer than
'Enable/Disable'.
b) 'Preferences -> Advanced -> Hot keys setting' contains:
* "Use trigger keys to enable or disable an input method"
What's a 'trigger key', that string is not used in the 'Keyboard Shortcuts'.
Again, 'activate/deactivate' is more accurate than 'Enable/Disable'.

--- Comment #5 from Humio Dattya <fwsndkk23(a)nifty.com> ---
Come because it's for those who are likely to be suspicious us, we will add a
description in my case.
Although the detailed reason will be omitted, Linux, was added so the user name
of another multi-user multi-tasking. (Fedora 16)
Login with the user name of the main failure was one day. Therefore,
We remove a user name to log in user name of the second(file did not exist),
was not able to login to change the name of the file access permissions and
ownership with superuser privileges.
Then, comment out the effect of policy contrary to Linux a few times, had to
deal with a case-by-case basis.
However, in the way of description as it is, has issued a report was put up and
display "Please submit a report of a bug in the internal error" suddenly one
day the other day. At that time, was a human user state was less so.
We still have that thought with a few days later, and I wish it did fix the
"bug" so well can be updated in the GUI. Is that of late, and I think rare
phenomenon was probably this usage.
