[PATCH v3] kdump-lib.sh: add extra 64M to default crashkernel if sme/sev is active

It's reported that kdump kernel failed to boot and can't dump vmcore
when crashkernel=192M and SME/SEV is active.
This is because swiotlb will be enabled and reserves 64M memory by
default on system with SME/SEV enabled. Then kdump kernel will be out of
memory after taking 64M away for swiotlb init.
So here add extra 64M memory to default crashkernel value so that kdump
kernel can function well as before. When doing that, search journalctl
for the "Memory Encryption Features active: AMD" to check if SME or SEV
is active. This line of log is printed out in kernel function as below
and the type SME is mutual exclusive with type SEV.

Note:
1) The conditional check is relying on journalctl log because I didn't
find available system interface to check if SEV is active. Even
though we can check if SME is active via /proc/cpuinfo. For
consistency, I take the same check for both SME and SEV by searching
journalctl.
2) The conditional check is relying on journalctl log, means it won't
work for crashkernel setting in anoconda because the installation
kernel doesn't have the SME/SEV setting. So customer need manually
run 'kdumpctl reset-crashkernel' to reset crashkernel to add the
extra 64M after OS installation.
3) We need watch the line of log printing in
print_mem_encrypt_feature_info() in kernel just in case people may
change it in the future.

[PATCH v3] Split kexec-tools into kexec-tools, kdump-utils and makedumpfile

This patch splits current kexec-tools into three packages kexec-tools,
kdump-utils and makedumpfile.
- the new kexec-tools is the same to the upstream kexec-tools which
provides the kexec and vmcore-dmesg binaries
- kdump-utils is responsible for building the kdump initrd and loading
it via the kexec binary
- makedumpfile is responsible for making a small dumpfile of vmcore
It's desirable to make this package modular because 1) now there is a
growing user base to use the kexec reboot 2) packaging makedumpfile and
kexec-tools alone will reduce the maintenance work.
When an old version of kexec-tools gets replaced by kdump-utils,
"%systemd_post" will be executed in the post scriptlet which has the
purpose to "systemctl preset kdump" for freshly installed kexec-tools.
But in the case of kdump-utils replacing kexec-tools, it is not needed
so skip this case.
"dnf repoquery --whatrequires kexec-tools" shows the following packages
requires kexec-tools,
- abrt-addon-vmcore
- anaconda-install-env-deps
- cockpit-kdump
- dracut-kiwi-oem-dump
- realtime-setup
- retrace-server
For those packages that need kdump, the dependency needs to point to
the new kdump-utils package instead.
Note some small improvements are also made in this change,
- stop mkdir'ing kcp as kcp.c has been gone long time ago
- use autosetup to automatically apply patches
- add the GPL2 LICENSE https://www.gnu.org/licenses/old-licenses/gpl-2.0.txt
for kdump-utils (the source code of makedumpfile and kexec-tools already
contain the license)
- remove unneeded Obsoletes
- use consistent build flags %make and %make_install (the benefits
include enabling parallel building automatically and avoiding installing
package file one by one)
- use "install -t -D" to simplify spec

[PATCH RFC 0/5] Introducing kdumpctl test/test-check to kexec-tools

Previously after setting kdump config, people will just regard the configs
to be "workable". However sometimes the "workable" kdump config is just an
illusion and will not have a vmcore generated when system crashes. The patchset
implements kdumpctl test/test-check, which will actually perform a crash & dump
based on the current kdump config, to work as a way to verify if the current
kdump config can really generate vmcores.
kdumpctl test: It will output the current kdump config list to users, including
crash kernel size, effective contents of kdump.conf etc. Then it will generate
a timestamp, which works as a id to mark the current testing. For kdump, the
id will be appended to 2nd kernel's commandline. For fadump, the id will be
append to 1st kernel's dmesg through /dev/kmsg.
kdumpctl test-check: After system reboot back, test-check will automatically
mount the dump target, then check if the id exists within files of dump path.
For kdump, the id should be in kexec-dmesg.log, similar in vmcore-dmesg.txt for
fadump. If test-check is successful, a md5sum of the current kdump config will
be generated. If re-run test-check, it will only check if md5sum, or kdump
config, is changed. This can speed up re-running test-check, since it will
not remount dump target nor file string grep.

[PATCH 1/2] powerpc: update kdumpctl to remove deletion of kernel signing key once loaded

Kernel signing key is deleted once kdump is loaded. This causes confusion in
debugging since key is no longer visible. Unless someone knows how
kdumpctl script works, it is difficult to find out how kdump could be
loaded when there is no key on .ima keyring.
Remove deletion of kernel signing key once loaded. And then to prevent
multiple loading of same key when kdump service is disabled/enabled, update
key description field as well.

[PATCH 1/2] Try to install PHY and MDIO bus drivers explicitly

Currently, nfs dumping fails on some machines that has a dedicated PHY
driver (dealing with the physical layer) or MDIO bus (connecting the MAC
to PHY devices) driver. This is because kexec-tools doesn't install
dedicated PHY or MDIO driver explicitly and the NIC driver don't specify
the dependency on the needed PHY or MDIO driver. So when the dependency
on a PHY driver or MDIO driver is not found by dracut's instmods, the
PHY or MDIO driver won't be installed.
This patch passes =drivers/net/phy and =drivers/net/mdio to dracut's
instmods which will only install in-use PHY or MDIO driver(s).
Note ideally we should find out which PHY driver is used by a NIC but
unfortunately currently no universal way can be found
(/sys/class/net/NIC_NAME/device/driver/module can be used to find the
name of the PHY driver for some NICs but it doesn't exist for some NICs
like Qualcomm Atheros AR8031). So is it for a MDIO bus driver.
Fortunately currently no huge memory consumption is found for a PHY or
MDIO driver.

This patch splits current kexec-tools into three packages kexec-tools,
kdump-utils and makedumpfile.
- the new kexec-tools is the same to the upstream kexec-tools which
provides the kexec and vmcore-dmesg binaries
- kdump-utils is responsible for building the kdump initrd and loading
it via the kexec binary
- makedumpfile is responsible for making a small dumpfile of vmcore
It's desirable to make this package modular because 1) now there is a
growing user base to use the kexec reboot 2) packaging makedumpfile and
kexec-tools alone will reduce the maintenance work.
When an old version of kexec-tools gets replaced by kdump-utils,
"%system_post" will be executed in the post scriptlet and the
purpose is to "systemctl preset kdump" for freshly installed
kexec-tools. But in the case of kdump-utils replacing kexec-tools, it
is not needed so skip this case.
"dnf repoquery --whatrequires kexec-tools" shows the following packages
requires kexec-tools,
- abrt-addon-vmcore
- anaconda-install-env-deps

- dracut-kiwi-oem-dump

For those packages that need kdump, the dependency needs to point to

[PATCH v2] kdump-lib.sh: add extra 64M to default crashkernel if sme/sev is active

It's reported that kdump kernel failed to boot and can't dump vmcore
when crashkernel=192M and SME/SEV is active.
This is because swiotlb will be enabled and reserves 64M memory by
default on system with SME/SEV enabled. Then kdump kernel will be out of
memory after taking 64M away for swiotlb init.
So here add extra 64M memory to default crashkernel value so that kdump
kernel can function well as before. When doing that, search journalctl
for the "Memory Encryption Features active: AMD" to check if SME or SEV
is active. This line of log is printed out in kernel function as below
and the type SME is mutual exclusive with type SEV.

Note:
1) The conditional check is relying on journalctl log because I didn't
find available system interface to check if SEV is active. Even
though we can check if SME is active via /proc/cpuinfo. For
consistency, I take the same check for both SME and SEV by searching
journalctl.
2) The conditional check is relying on journalctl log, means it won't
work for crashkernel setting in anoconda because the installation
kernel doesn't have the SME/SEV setting. So customer need manually
run 'kdumpctl reset-crashkernel' to reset crashkernel to add the
extra 64M after OS installation.
3) We need watch the line of log printing in
print_mem_encrypt_feature_info() in kernel just in case people may
change it in the future.

[PATCH 1/2] powerpc: update kdumpctl to not delete kernel signing key once loaded

Kernel signing key is deleted once kdump is loaded. This causes confusion in
debugging since key is no longer visible. Unless someone knows how
kdumpctl script works, it is difficult to find out how kdump could be
loaded when there is no key on .ima keyring.
Remove deletion of kernel signing key once loaded. And then to prevent
multiple loading of same key when kdump service is disabled/enabled, update
key description field as well.

[PATCH] Split kexec-tools into kexec-tools, kdump-utils and makedumpfile

This patch splits current kexec-tools into three packages kexec-tools,
kdump-utils and makedumpfile.
- the new kexec-tools is the same to the upstream kexec-tools which
provides the kexec and vmcore-dmesg binaries
- kdump-utils is responsible for building the kdump initrd and loading
it via the kexec binary
- makedumpfile is responsible for making a small dumpfile of vmcore
It's desirable to make this package modular because 1) now there is a
growing user base to use the kexec reboot 2) packaging makedumpfile and
kexec-tools alone will reduce the maintenance work.
"dnf repoquery --whatrequires kexec-tools" shows the following packages
requires kexec-tools,
- abrt-addon-vmcore
- anaconda-install-env-deps
- cockpit-kdump
- dracut-kiwi-oem-dump
- realtime-setup
- retrace-server
For those packages that need kdump, the dependency needs to point to
the new kdump-utils package instead.
Note some small improvements are also made in this change,
- stop mkdir'ing kcp as kcp.c has been gone long time ago
- use autosetup to automatically apply patches
- add the GPL2 LICENSE for kdump-utils (the source code of makedumpfile
and kexec-tools already contain the license)
- remove unneeded Obsoletes

[PATCH] kdump-lib.sh: add extra 64M to default crashkernel if sme/sev is active

It's reported that kdump kernel failed to boot and can't dump vmcore
when crashkernel=192M and SME/SEV is active.
This is because swiotlb will be enabled and reserves 64M memory by
default on system with SME/SEV enabled. Then kdump kernel will be out of
memory after taking 64M away for swiotlb init.
So here add extra 64M memory to default crashkernel value so that kdump
kernel can function well as before. When doing that, search journalctl
for the "Memory Encryption Features active: AMD" to check if SME or SEV
is active. This line of log is printed out in kernel function as below
and the type SME is mutual exclusive with type SEV.

Note:
1) The conditional check is relying on journalctl log because I didn't
find available system interface to check if SEV is active. Even
though we can check if SME is active via /proc/cpuinfo. For
consistency, I take the same check for both SME and SEV by searching
journalctl.
2) The conditional check is relying on journalctl log, means it won't
work for crashkernel setting in anoconda because the installation
kernel doesn't have the SME/SEV setting. So customer need manually
run 'kdumpctl reset-crashkernel' to reset crashkernel to add the
extra 64M after OS installation.
3) We need watch the line of log printing in
print_mem_encrypt_feature_info() in kernel just in case people may
change it in the future.
