pseudo packaging task lists at medfloss.org

Hi,

just some news from www.medfloss.org (formerly medfoss.apfelkraut.org /
freemedsw.apfelkraut.org), one of this various meta-databases of medical FLOSS.

You may have noticed that you can specify per project, if it is already available as
official distro package.

Now I just added some pages for you, based on this information: 

Sorted by popularity (measured by number of views of each project - I know this is not the
ultimate criteria, but the best I could get) you can see a distro specific list of
projects, that are not yet available as official packages.

These lists can be found ...

- for Debian Med at http://www.medfloss.org/node/350
- for Fedora Medical at http://www.medfloss.org/node/351
- for OpenSUSE Medical at http://www.medfloss.org/node/352

Hope these can help you a bit in deciding which project should be packaged next or are
worth to be added to your actual task list?! Please let me know in case you can think of
additional information that could be of any use to you.

That's really cool and might provide a really interesting source of
information if we want to define our next targets for packaging.

BTW, in Debian there is Popularity Contest[1] which tries to implement
an objective measure based on the number of installations and actually
really used and actively upgraded packages.  We are listing the popcon
results on the Debian Med tasks pages[2] for each program.  However, we
are aware that also this measure is not really the best criterion to
have objective values for certain reasons.

This is a really great list.  I just linked to it from our development
page[3] and our ToDo list in the Debian Wiki[4].  Is there any way to
report projects which are wrongly listed on the page above.  For
instance entry number 43 "Visualization Toolkit (VTK)" is packaged
for Debian (libvtk5.4 in unstable and libvtk5.2 in testing).  Or is
the list just based on stable Debian releases?

As I said it is very helpful and I'm hoping for more user interaction
on your side to get more values for evaluation.

The list refers at the moment just to projects that are not yet available as stable Debian
releases.

If a project is wrongly listed (as there is already a stable official package available),
you can do the following:

1.) Click on the project. This will lead you to the actual page of the project at
medfloss.org
2.) Next to the title of the project is a link "Edit". By clicking on it, you
can modify all properties of the project
3.) Go to the property "Official distro package available via" and activate the
checkbox for your distribution
4.) Answer the CAPTCHA challenge at the bottom of the page and press save
5.) The information is updated and the project will be automatically removed from the
list

If it would help, I could easily add two more distributions to medfloss.org (Debian
testing & unstable) and show this info somehow in the "Non-Debian"-listing?
