Hi,
Is there a way to update a distro lets say from RHEL5.5 to RHEL5.6?
Thanks for any hints,
Luc
Hi Luc,
I imported RHEL5.6 next to it, then changed the distribution name to RHEL5.6 in the profiles, this way I always can go back to RHEL5.5 if needed.
Regards, Stefan

I didn't find a way to do this. Distros themselves seem to be immutable once they're created.
Since I use CentOS, I was able to work around that by creating a separate repo for the OS files and including that in the profile. When installing the system, the latest distribution files are used. (And since the OS files are available from mirrors, cobbler reposync updates this repo when CentOS releases a new version.)
You might be able to do this by copying the files from the ISO to a given directory and configuring a repo to use that directory as the source. When a new version is released, copy the files from that ISO into the same directory and run cobbler reposync. I'm not sure if there's a better way to do this. (As I said, I'm using CentOS and I just set it up to rsync the distribution files from a mirror.)
The one thing I don't like about my approach is that the original (old) distribution will be installed if I don't add the OS repo to the profile. I haven't made this mistake yet but I suppose it's only a matter of time. (However, with a separate distro for each release, I could have the same issue if I didn't update all of the profiles.)
Hope this helps some.

Couldn't you just import the OS as usual, then create a kickstart file and instead of having "install" have it say "upgrade", and remove all the partition information, packages, network, and anything else that is specific to an install vs an upgrade?
Then just re-PXE boot the machine and it should successfully perform an upgrade to an existing RHEL5.5 machine. I believe you can create a yum repository as well to perform but don't recall what this would take.
