So this is for deploying ESX /hosts/ with Cobbler, not guests, right?
(Given VMware's OS is essentally a rebuild of old RHEL source and you
are importing it)
Correct, the ESX install uses Anaconda (ESX 3.5 is based on RHEL3), so it is
kickstartable. We have about 16-18 ESX hosts here that have not been
standardized. We'd like to change that and get standard
partitioning/configuration/etc. on the hosts, too.
I think the one major thing we wanted to do in the future was extend
the
existing VMware support in koan to also support ESX -- right now it does
VMware
server and workstation, so I suspect it wouldn't be much of a stretch.
Something you might be interested in looking at?
Eventually, yes. Right now time just won't allow for that. We're ramping up
cobbler and puppet both right now. Once those get into a steady state we can
look at extending the ESX support.
