Finally we installed python-ctypes-1.0.2-2.el5.i386 on centos5.7 with
cobbler 2.3.1 package build from git source
and now cobblerd starts fine :-)
remember error was:
ImportError: No module named ctypes
Now I will reconsider migrating to a centos6 to host our cobbler server,
but I'am glad I have a procedure to do it if necessary.
Regards .

Yes -- and good point. The ctypes issue is news to me but I
wasn't
around when it came up.
Given that, you should be able to get just as far with a rsync of
/var/lib/cobbler, /etc/cobbler, and /var/www/cobbler ... possibly with
a small bit of trial and error.
