Someone reported that the checksum verification procedure for Mac doesn't work
the way it's described in the Installation Guide. Here's what they said:

Otherwise instructions are very clear on the process, I used the command line
to build my USB boot stick. That step does not prevent you from installing, but
having a verified checksum is always better.

Fwd: finding/counting man pages in diff languages?

Hi,
Is it possible to generate a list of all commands that have man pages on a
given Fedora machine? (Or at least a decent approximation of how many in
each language?)
Are all stored under /usr/share/man ? e.g. on this sample
OLPC/Sugar/Fedora system I see 8 language-specific subdirectories below
that {de, es, en, fr, pl, pt_BR, pt_PT, zh} and also 22 subdirectories that
begin with "man" {such as man1, man1x, man1p, mann}. The "man?x"
directories are empty, and there are few "man?p" directories, but the
"man?" directories quite full.
The following suggests 3581 man pages:
ls /usr/share/man | grep .gz | sort | uniq
Noting many commands appear 3 times (e.g. chmod.1p.gz, chmod.2.gz,
chmod.3p.gz), some twice (e.g. encrypt.3.gz, encrypt.3p.gz) and yet others
only once (e.g. cd.1p.gz). So the following suggests 2544 man pages, if
the above duplicates are not too meaningful? (Or are system/Linux/Posix(p)
variations meaningful & easily viewable?)
ls /usr/share/man | sed 's/\..*//' | sort | uniq
Finally, the following shows only 56 man pages in non-English languages:
ls /usr/share/man/??/* /usr/share/man/??_??/* | | sed 's/\..*//' | sort
| uniq
Meager indeed, ah well! Still, how do I display+discover these man pages
in other languages, if they serve a purpose internationally, anyone know?
PS OLPC's James Cameron suggested I ask who in the Fedora world hopefully
knows more about man pages organization? To see if the above is the best
out there for diverse/developing countries (QED) or if in fact there might
be more available than listed above?? Thanks!

This section of the documentation recommends using a FQDN for the static
hostname, which is stored in /etc/hostname. However if one does that, uname -n
(to find the node name) will always return the FQDN. This has impact on
subsystems like python when determining the short name of the host. A better
solution is to use the shortname in /etc/hostname and supply a FQDN in
/etc/hosts.

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Follow directions leading to FQDN in /etc/hostname
2. uname -n
3. hostname -s
Actual results:
FQDN shown as nodename, which does not match hostname -s
Expected results:
uname -n and hostname -s would both report the same short name, as defined in
/etc/hostname

The RHEL7 documentation also suffers from this defect.
