Nushio had a great idea on this ticket, which is to place a scannable QR Code in our FUDCon name badges. I talked about this a bit with Ian Weller and he indicated he'd have some time to work on it tomorrow. Here's what I propose:
I'll take the wiki pre-reg table and from that coax a CSV of:
* Optional FAS username * Optional real name * Optional comment * Optional shirt size * Optional veg mark (V or VV)
Ian will take that input, and work up a script that takes the CSV for input and produces beeyooteeful name badges with this information. Ian, a couple ideas I'll toss in your mental grinder that you can take or leave:
* Make the shirt size and veg mark on the badge less prominent. In Toronto we made them smaller and grey in color, so they could be read easily at the registration desk to pass out goodies, without looking overly geeky or embarrassing anyone about their shirt size.
* I've filled in a template for vCard content to comprise the QR Code in a comment on the ticket above. We don't want to provide much more than full name, email, and URL, because different devices, scanning software, etc. have varying levels of functionality. I figured, best to stick with the basics for maximum compatibility.
* It would be awesome if somehow the design matched our booklets a little bit, but because we might print these to perforated Avery labels or something, a design that spills off the side might not work too well. I trust your imagination and skillz though!
Jared will order badge supplies, and tell Ian what he ordered. Ian probably needs to know the size of these blanks for his script to do its magic as intended. Last year we used simple Avery perforated blanks along with pin-style holders -- the ones that are made out of flexible thin plastic that just folds over the top; the badge can go in that way or through either side.

Should this be a vcard QR code, or a URL QR code pointing to https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/User:Whosit ?
Vcard pros and cons: + doesn't need net connection - limited info
URL: + can include whatever info you want, graphics, additional links, etc. - requires net connection to be useful
(Any privacy legistlation applicable here? I know there could be in Canada)

Actually, we used those at the previous Boston FUDCon; they're 2x3.5" business card size. At Toronto we used the string-around-the-neck ones that are a big bigger (3x4") so names could be printed larger.

The QR Code was going to include a minimal vCard with information as I outlined in that ticket: name, email (username@fp.o), and the URL pointing to fp.o/wiki/User:username.
We can easily have a script check the privacy flag, and then only provide the name shown on the badge if it's on. But if the privacy flag's not checked, the Fedora Privacy Policy allows disclosure of publicly available information such as the above. http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/FedoraProject:Privacy_policy#Sharing_Your_Pers...

ACK, you're right! It turns out that Robyn has the bigger string-around-the-neck holders, a bit over 3x4" in size. So we can stick with the bigger print, and accommodate bigger print and a very legible QR Code. (Much appreciated for my old eyes, don't know about anyone else.) :-)

I don't want to digress but I did send badge holders to Tempe with the lanyards. I don't recall the details but passed that information along previously.

You certainly did, John, much appreciated! Robyn pulled them out this afternoon so we could compare the size we needed for blanks. Thanks again.
