rpm-ostree install and core dump
by Alessio Ciregia
Hello.
Please look at rpm-ostree issue #1493 on github [1].
In short, "rpm-ostree install kernel-modules-extra" doesn't work [1]
and journalctl reports a lot of coredumps.
This seems to happen only if on my Rasperry Pi 3. No problem so far
using Fedora IOT on KVM (x86_64 or aarch64). And no issues also using
F28 IOT on the same RPi3.
In addition, it seems to crash only installing kernel-modules-extra,
it worked with any other package I have installed (overlayed?).
Yeah, I don't know what I'm doing :-) but I just report this behaviour
I've observed.
[1] <https://github.com/projectatomic/rpm-ostree/issues/1493>
[2] Running post scripts... error: Running %post for
kernel-modules-extra: Executing bwrap(/bin/sh): Child process killed
by signal 7; run `journalctl -t
'rpm-ostree(kernel-modules-extra.post)'` for more information
Thanks,
A.

Mozilla Things Gateway - Odd Ping
by Troy Dawson
Hi,
I really like the interface for Mozilla's Gateway [1], but I was
having problems with the firewall, and now I'm wondering if I'm the
only person seeing this strange ping that it does.
I've gotten the same result off a fresh install of both F28 and F29,
on an x86_64 machine.
I've found that it really like's nodejs 8, so for F28 I use the
standard nodejs, and on F29 I use the nodejs8 module. If I use the
nodejs 10 in F29, I still get the same strange ping, but I also get
other errors as well.
Anyway, I follow all the steps in the README [1], including opening
the firewall., but when I do the "npm start", everything runs, but
then I get the following
...
2018-10-30 14:24:15.349 Service Discovery: changing profile - local
domain is now: f29-iot
2018-10-30 14:24:15.354 Service Discovery: state changed to: true
2018-10-30 14:24:15.858 Unhandled Rejection
2018-10-30 14:24:15.859 Error: Timed out getting default route
at Timeout._onTimeout
(/home/quake/gateway/gateway-0.6.0/node_modules/dnssd/lib/Advertisement.js:278:21)
at ontimeout (timers.js:498:11)
at tryOnTimeout (timers.js:323:5)
at Timer.listOnTimeout (timers.js:290:5)
2018-10-30 14:24:25.187 Checking for add-on updates...
...
Everything from "Unhandled Rejection" to the end of the trace, isn't
supposed to be there. And then nothing works.
After much code tracing, turning selinux off and on, and finally
looking at the firewall, I found the following solution.
firewall-cmd --zone=public --add-port=5353/udp --permanent
BUT ... this shouldn't be happening.
Turns out that pinging this port (and a strange ip address) is
default behavior in the nodejs module dnssd if nothing else is set.
To me it looks like it *is* getting set in src/mdns-server.js, but
it's acting like it's not.
Anyway, in short (to late), can someone try to install gateway on
their fedora machine and let me know if they are seeing the same
thing.

Fedora IoT
by Douglas E. Hopley Jr.
I pulled down and burnt Fedora-IoT-dvd-x86_64-29-20181010.0.iso. Booting
for an install is not successful for me.
On lenovo x100e h/w resources I booted to the install and have an issue
~-> "dracut init-queue timeout " . That is similar to what I saw earlier
with that machine and the ACER.
Should I ,and where , send the rdsosreport.txt ? OR should I look to
another path/method to install?
Can I provide more details/information? Any next steps I should follow?
I also pulled Fedora-IoT-29-20181010.0.aarch64.raw.xz and used
arm-image-installer. Using an SDCard that I had put raspbian and booted
the pi 3 B+ that ran. Same card that worked for a raspbian boot was used
for the arm-image-installer process. Booting with the SD card that the
arm-image-installer wrote did not work.
At this point I have no running instances as I have wiped old machines to
move to the updates.
I was trying to get to recent version installed on the resources I have
here for Fedora IoT to get to more current.
If there is anything specific I can do to test or spend focus on, let me
know.
My goal is to see where I can start to add value. I feel that I am having
issues getting environments setup and am not able to get to working with
IoT. What am I missing? Short term I wanted to see where I could help and
right now I feel like a drag.
It feels a little bit like I am struggling at almost to basic of a level.
I did not want to burden the list with trivia as I want to help and not be
a drain.
What do you need from me?
Thanks for your time,
Doug

rpm consistency
by Tim Coote
Hullo
given the challenges of working out how `(rpm-)ostree` works for overlaying packages on ‘real hardware', I thought I’d try to build a vagrant box for x86 version of fedora. I can see that there are issues with getting VBoxGuestAdditions installed as they don’t use a package manager, but just try to create symbolic links into `/usr/bin`. I’m assuming that I’ll be able to work around that with `ostree admin unlock —hotfix`.
However, there seem to be some inconsistencies in the packages in the ostree.
$ rpm -qa |grep kernel
kernel-devel-4.18.16-300.fc29.x86_64
kernel-tools-libs-4.18.10-300.fc29.x86_64
kernel-modules-4.18.12-300.fc29.x86_64
kernel-tools-4.18.10-300.fc29.x86_64
kernel-headers-4.18.16-300.fc29.x86_64
kernel-4.18.12-300.fc29.x86_64
kernel-core-4.18.12-300.fc29.x86_64
Note that kernel{,-core,-modules} are at version 4.18.12, whereas kernel-{devel,headers} are at 4.18.16
Is this expected? Is there a workaround, or am I stumped on getting VBGuestAdditions onto the vagrantbox?

Fedora IoT - RPi2
by Douglas E. Hopley Jr.
Question:
Should I get the .iso from:/pub/alt/iot/29/IoT/armhfp/iso
For my RPi2? What is the process for booting + installing?
Would the following work:
0)??
1) Create the ISO/DVD
2) Boot the machine off an attached USB DVD
3) Follow std install process to install to an SD in the RPi2
OR what would be the course of action, if I should use the other Pi?
Would you recommend using a Pi2? Or just concentrate on the RPi3B+?
Thanks
Doug
